March 2024 marked the beginning of my extraordinary journey to Niseko, Japan – a renowned winter paradise. The moment I stepped into the Kyubi Spirit Lodge, a world of unparalleled luxury and serenity unfolded before me.
My adventure commenced with a rejuvenating dip in the onsen, a traditional Japanese hot spring bath located within the lodge. The exquisite contrast of the steaming waters against the crisp, snowy backdrop just beyond the sliding doors provided a sensory experience like no other. It was a stark, invigorating departure from the ice baths back in Vietnam, offering both physical and spiritual renewal.
At dawn, Darren Lo, a friend and esteemed snowboard mentor, introduced me to the slopes. Despite my hiatus from snowboarding, the transition from skateboarding to snowboarding felt surprisingly natural, thanks in no small part to Darren’s encouragement and expert guidance. Returning to Niseko after several years, I found myself in awe of its beauty and exhilarated by the challenge.
It was an adventurous week that started with a half marathon in Vietnam to the serene majesty of a snow-capped mountain hike up Mt. Niseko-Annupuri. The ascent by cable car, a moment of self-reflection, was swiftly followed by an adrenaline-fueled descent, each turn in the powder a testament to the mountain’s allure and my newfound snowboarding prowess.
Beyond the physical challenges, my stay at Kyubi Spirit Lodge was enriched by evenings of culinary exploration and camaraderie. From mastering the art of pizza making in the lodge’s commercial kitchen to indulging in the local specialty of butter corn ramen, each meal was an opportunity to connect and dream big with fellow adventurers from around the world.

Niseko is not just a destination; it’s a journey of transformation. Through its pristine landscapes, vibrant food scene, and the unparalleled hospitality of Kyubi Spirit Lodge, it redefines the essence of travel. My journey here was a vivid reminder that life, much like snowboarding, is about embracing the ride with open arms, ready for whatever lies beyond the next peak.
